4 Dead, Multiple Hospitalized after Police Pursuit Ends in Fatal Crash near West 16th Street

UPLAND, CA (July 3, 2024) – Early Friday, Jesus Guillen, Michael Gomez, and Joel Silva were killed in a DUI crash on North Mountain Avenue.

Shortly before 2:00 a.m., first responders arrived to the scene near West 16th Street.

Officers say a driver of a black 2018 Hyundai sedan failed to comply with a traffic stop, initiating a pursuit in Rancho Cucamonga.

The chase continued to Upland before the suspect’s vehicle collided with a white Ford Mustang at the intersection. 

At least five people were inside the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Four of the occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Authorities later identified three of the deceased victims as 16-year-old Guillan Jr., of Fontana, 17-year-old Gomez, of Pomona and 16-year-old Silva, of Fontana. A 13-year-old boy inside the Hyundai is expected to survive.

Paramedics also took two occupants from the Ford Mustang, a 35-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman from Ontario to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Additionally, paramedics transported two of the occupants of the Mustang for treatment with unspecified injuries.

Following the collision, investigators learned the suspect’s vehicle was stolen from Fontana. Authorities also discovered a loaded firearm inside the car. Upland Officials continue to investigate the fatal North Mountain Avenue DUI crash.
