Man Killed, One Seriously Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision near Esplanade Avenue

SAN JACINTO, CA (June 25, 2024) – Late Friday evening, a two-vehicle crash on San Jacinto Avenue claimed the life of Antonio Cervantes.

First responders arrived to the scene around 10:10 p.m., near Esplanade Avenue on June 21st.

According to reports, Cervantes attempted to escape a checkpoint where drivers were being screened for intoxication at the time.

Shortly after, two vehicles collided about a half mile away, causing one of the vehicles to overturn. Emergency crews responded shortly after and located both drivers trapped inside their cars upon arrival.

Responding personnel extricated both drivers who sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics took Cervantes to Riverside University Health System Medical Center where he died at 11:43 p.m.

Meanwhile, the other driver was listed in stable condition.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
