52-Year-Old Woman Charged, Passenger Dead after Hit-and-Run Crash near 20th Street
DEL MAR, CA (June 24, 2024) – Tuesday night, Elizabeth Brooks-Fratus was arrested and a man was killed in a DUI collision on Coast Boulevard.
Authorities responded to the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard near 20th Street on June 18th.
According to reports, 52-year-old Elizabeth Brooks-Fratus was driving a 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo north on Coast Boulevard, and veered off the road.
The Maserati then hit a parked car and crashed into a tree, killing a 62-year-old man in the passenger seat.
Upon impact, Brooks-Fratus initially fled the scene before police located and arrested her. Police officers took her to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Elizabeth Brooks-Fratus is scheduled to be booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee on charges of felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and DUI.
Emergency personnel shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Currently, officials have not provided further details regarding the fatal DUI collision on Coast Boulevard.
