23-Year-Old Rider Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle Accident near Southern Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (June 17, 2024) – Friday night, Alex Calderon was killed and two were hurt in high-speed motorcycle crash on Sycamore Avenue.

The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m., near Southern Avenue on June 14th.

Officers say 23-year-old Calderon was riding a motorcycle at high speeds, weaving between vehicles.

The motorcycle eventually collided with a stationary SUV, which was waiting to turn left at a traffic light.

First responders discovered Calderon partially trapped underneath the SUV. Crews promptly transported him to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 23-year-old Calderon.

In addition, two passengers inside the SUV sustained minor injuries. Moreover, police conducted an impairment test on the Mazda driver as protocol. However, crews do not believe impairment played a factor.
