20-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after DUI Collision on State Route 100

PORT ISABEL, TX (June 12, 2024) – Sunday, Mariah Enriquez died, and Hugo Lara was arrested after a DUI crash on Queen Isabella Causeway.

The incident happened just before 2:00 a.m., on Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway on June 2nd.

Officers say Lara was driving a white 2023 Ford F-150 west in the eastbound lanes of State Route 100. As a result, the Ford struck an oncoming 2008 red Kia passenger sedan, driven by Enriquez.

Medics arrived and pronounced 20-year-old Enriquez dead, due to the extent of her injuries.

Following preliminary investigations, police arrested 48-year-old Hugo Ernesto Lara and charged him with intoxication manslaughter. At 9:38 a.m., officials arraigned Lara at the Cameron County Jail, setting his bond at $350,000.
