Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Fatal Crash near Cherokee Road

AUGUST, CA (May 23, 2024) – Early Friday morning, one man was fatally struck in a big-rig vs pedestrian collision on Highway 99. 

Around 4:46 p.m., first responders arrived to the southbound lanes of the freeway near Cherokee Road.

According to reports, the driver of a 2015 Peterbilt semi-truck towing a trailer hit the pedestrian walking in the roadway. 

Upon impact, the semi-truck driver pulled over and cooperated with the investigation. 

Responding emergency personnel declared the male pedestrian dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released his name or place of residency.

California Highway Patrol eventually closed the No. 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway as crews cleared the scene. Following preliminary duties, authorities determined that the driver was not under the influence. 

At this time, officers continue to investigate the fatal Cherokee Road pedestrian crash. Once available, more details will be provided.
