34-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Adams Road

COTTONWOOD, CA (May 22, 2024) – Monday morning, Ashley Slavens was killed and Joshua Gay was hurt in a head-on collision on Bowman Road.

Around 4:40 a.m., first responders arrived to the scene near Adams Road on May 14th.

Investigators say Slavens was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox west on Bowman Road.

For reasons under investigation, she suddenly crossed the double-yellow lines into the eastbound lanes. There, the Chevy collided head-on with an oncoming 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Gay.

Emergency responders arrived and extricated both drivers who were trapped inside their vehicles. Paramedics immediately transported both victims to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 34-year-old Slaves who was pregnant at the time, as well as her fetus, deceased. Meanwhile, 39-year-old Joshua James Gay was in moderate condition.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the incident. Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal head-on collision on Bowman Road.
