Derek Schimming Dies in 2-Car Accident on Pacific Coast Highway [Malibu, CA]
60-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Two-Car Crash near Paradise Cove
MALIBU, CA (May 21, 2024) – Tuesday afternoon, Derek Schimming was pronounced dead after a 2-car accident on Pacific Coast Highway.
Authorities responded to the scene just before 1:00 p.m., between Paradise Cove and Winding Way on May 14th.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Schimming was driving a gray 2008 Honda Civic, south in an unsafe manner. The Honda suddenly veered over the northbound lanes and collided with a white van.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and immediately performed life-saving efforts. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics later pronounced 60-year-old Schimming deceased.
Officers believed that Schimming possibly suffered a medical emergency event when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the driver of the van suffered minor injuries, and was taken to a nearby hospital. No other updates were released by the authorities.
