89-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Two-Car Accident on Country Road L
DAWSON COUNTY, TX (May 13, 2024) – Thursday afternoon, Rex Zant was killed and John Villalobos was hurt in a red-light collision on U.S. 87.
Authorities responded to the scene around 3:00 p.m., near County Road L on May 2nd.
Per reports, Villalobos was driving a 2023 Toyota Camry south on the freeway and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection. As a result, the Toyota struck an eastbound 2019 GMC Acadia on County Road L, driven by Zant.
Paramedics arrived and transported 89-year-old Zant, of Lamesa to Medical Arts Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In addition, crews took 37-year-old Villalobos, of Lubbock to UMC Lubbock for further treatment of serious injuries.
Emergency personnel shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. No additional information was added by the authorities and further investigation is still ongoing.
