Pilot Hospitalized after Plane Suffers Engine Failure on Clarke Drive
EL CAJON, CA (May 8, 2024) – Sunday evening, a plane crash on Lily Avenue and Clarke Drive left one pilot with serious injuries.
The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m., near the intersection of Clarke Drive and Lily Avenue on April 28th.
The plane, a Bellanca Super Viking, operated by one pilot, suffered an engine failure causing a drop in oil pressure and a rise in oil temperature. The pilot immediately dropped and crashed into a neighborhood.
Moreover, Heartland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief John Nevin stated that the pilot was headed to Gillespie Field. They immediately transported the pilot to the nearest hospital with serious but stable injuries.
In addition, some of the power lines were struck and crews responded to isolate and control the downed lines. The El Cajon Police Department, together with the Federal Aviation Administration, is conducting further investigations into what caused the crash.
