67-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Thrift Store Crash near Madrid Avenue

LAS CRUCES, NM (May 8, 2024) – Tuesday morning, Pamela Kaye Nelson was killed in a car accident on North Main Street.

Authorities responded to the scene at the 2340 block of North Main Street around 10:00 a.m., on April 30th.

Per reports, the 69-year-old female driver of a Ford Explorer stepped on the gas instead of the brakes while parked. As a result, the vehicle drove into a glass and aluminum facade near the self-checkout area of a thrift store, hitting fifteen civilians.

Crews say 2 of the injured victims were employees at Savers, while the other 10 were customers at the store.

Paramedics arrived and transported 10 out of the 15 injured victims to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 67-year-old Nelson deceased.

Meanwhile, the driver did not obtain any injuries, but she later sought medical attention.

At this time, no updates were made about the conditions of the other victims, and an active investigation remains ongoing.
