Estella Gomez Dead, Maria Ortiz Hospitalized after Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision on Magnolia Avenue [Los Angeles, CA]
74-Year-Old Woman Killed, One Critically Injured in Pedestrian Crash near Adams Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 7, 2024) – Thursday afternoon, a hit-and-run collision on Magnolia Avenue killed Estella Gomez and left Maria Ortiz hurt.
Around 1:20 p.m., police officers responded to the scene at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Adams Boulevard.
According to the LAPD, an unidentified van hit the two victims while backing out of a property in the area. However, the driver did not render aid to the pedestrians and fled the scene.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medical responders declared one of the women dead at the scene. She was later identified as 74-year-old Estella Melani Gomez.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the second victim, identified as Maria Ortiz, to an area hospital for treatment of significant injuries. Ortiz was believed to be in her 90s.
Following preliminary duties, investigators said the suspect’s vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on West 2nd Street.
Those who witnessed the fatal Magnolia Avenue hit-and-run are encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department as soon as possible.
The family of Gomez started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses during this time.
