24-Year-Old Man Arrested after Multi-Vehicle Collision near Camarillo Springs Road

CAMARILLO, CA (May 6, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, Luis Cardoso was arrested and multiple were hurt after a DUI crash on 101 Freeway.

Around 12:05 a.m., police officers responded to the northbound lanes of the freeway near Camarillo Springs Road. Investigators say the collision involved 11 vehicles.

According to California Highway Patrol officers, the driver of a southbound 2008 Honda Civic veered into the northbound lanes for reasons unknown. 

As a result, the Honda collided head-on with multiple other oncoming vehicles, causing significant front-end damage.

First responders extricated the Honda driver who was trapped inside his vehicle. Eventually, police arrested the wrong-way driver, identified as 24-year-old Luis Ocampo Cardoso of Santa Barbara for felony DUI. 

Camarillo Officials also closed the northbound lanes of 101 Freeway for at least two hours as crews cleared the scene. Those with additional information regarding the head-on crash can contact the CHP Moorpark Office at (805) 553-0800.
