Two Camp Pendleton Marines Killed in Car Accident near Cocklerburr Road
OCEANSIDE, CA (May 6, 2024) – Thursday evening, Jacob Johnson and Eduardo Zambrano died in a truck crash on Interstate 5.
Shortly before 9:00 p.m., dispatchers received calls on the southbound lanes of the freeway near Cocklerburr Road.
Based on the initial investigation, the driver of a silver Hyundai Genesis veered off the roadway and hit a parked Kenworth tractor-trailer.
Responding emergency personnel declared the two occupants of the vehicle dead at the scene.
Later, the medical examiner’s office identified the two deceased victims as 21-year-old Jacob Johnson and 19-year-old Eduardo Hernandez Zambrano.
According to records, both men were assigned to the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Pendleton.
The California Highway Patrol is working to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. Once available, further details will be provided.
