22-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near West 54th Street
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 17, 2024) – Thursday evening, Maria Jarmaillo-Silva was killed in a hit-and-run t-bone crash on Figueroa Street.
Authorities responded to the scene around 9:30 p.m., near West 54th Street and the Vermont Square neighborhood.
Per reports, the driver of a white Ford Explorer T-boned a vehicle occupied by a family of three at the intersection. Following the crash, the three men inside the Ford Explorer fled the scene.
Investigators said the men gathered their belongings and exited the SUV, causing multiple beer cans to fall out.
Responding paramedics declared a female victim from the first vehicle dead at the scene. On Friday, the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner identified the deceased woman as 22-year-old Maria Jarmaillo-Silva.
Meanwhile, a 5-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Police have not released any additional information regarding the suspects. Authorities are asking those who witnessed the fatal hit-and-run to contact the LAPD.
