Two Pronounced Dead after Dump-Truck Collision near Craddick Highway.

MIDLAND, TX (April 16, 2024) – Monday afternoon, Richard Vela and Felipe Avila were killed in a dump-truck accident on State Highway 349.

Officers arrived to the scene around 4:15 p.m., at the 7100 block of North State Highway 349 near Craddick Highway on April 8th.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a dump-truck disregarded the right of way and collided with a southbound Ford F-350 on US 349.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that both occupants of the Ford truck, 32-year-old Richard Vela and 39-year-old Felipe Avila, residents of Odessa, had died at the scene. Additionally, one person with minor injuries was transported to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the dump-truck driver, aged 33, remained uninjured.

At this time, the circumstances that led up to the incident remain unknown. An active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided on the truck crash on US 349.
