87-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Parking Lot Collision on Sarival Avenue

SURPRISE, AZ (April 16, 2024) – Early Tuesday afternoon, Carole Escajeda was fatally struck in a parking lot crash on Waddell Road.

The deadly incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. First responders arrived to the Costco parking lot near Sarival Avenue on April 9th.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a vehicle struck Escajeda in the parking lot. As a result, the female pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 87-year-old Escajeda deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Emergency personnel shut down the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Police stated that the driver was not suspected to be impaired at that time.

At this time, an active investigation is still underway to determine further events leading up to the parking lot crash on Waddell Road. Once available, more information will be released.
