44-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Tractor-Trailer Crash near Rusk

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (April 2, 2024) – Monday afternoon, Nicholas Schintgen was killed and Nelson Terrell was involved in a tractor-trailer crash.

The incident occurred just before 1:45 p.m., on the southbound lanes of US Highway 69 about five miles south of Rusk on March 25th.

Per reports, 44-year-old Schintgen was driving a southbound 2023 Dodge Ram van. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Terrell was driving a southbound 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer at high rates of speed on the wet road.

Eventually, Terrell lost control of the tractor-trailer and struck the van. The impact pushed the can off the road and into a nearby tree.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 44-year-old Schintgen deceased at the scene.

Meanwhile, Terrell did not sustain any injuries from the collision, and at this time it was unknown if he will be facing charges. Further investigation to determine more details remains active.
