21-Year-Old Caruthers Man Pronounced Dead after SUV vs Semi-Truck Collision near Lincoln Avenue

FRESNO COUNTY, CA (April 2, 2024) – Friday morning, Mario Calderas was killed in a stop-sign big-rig accident on Marks Avenue.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m., near Lincoln Avenue just west of Easton.

Officers say the driver of a Toyota SUV failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection. As a result, the Toyota struck a commercial big-rig, ejecting the Toyota driver onto the road.

Upon impact, the semi-truck veered into a canal and caught fire.

First responders declared the Toyota driver dead at the scene. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased driver as 21-year-old Mario Calderas, of Caruthers.

Meanwhile, the truck driver sustained minor injuries. 

Authorities are currently waiting for toxicology reports in order to determine if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Once available, further details will be provided.
