16-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Accident near Road 100

PASCO, WA (April 1, 2024) – Early Tuesday morning, a deadly pedestrian collision on Interstate 182 claimed the life of Ethan Vargas.

Dispatchers received calls in the area just before 3:30 a.m., near Road 100 on March 12th.

Officers say the driver of a westbound vehicle struck Vargas as he was attempting to cross the southbound lanes. Upon impact, the vehicle became disabled and the driver stopped and remained at the scene.

Paramedics arrived shortly after and pronounced 16-year-old Vargas, of Kennewick dead at the scene.

Police evaluated the 58-year-old male driver at the scene. Crews say he did not show signs of impairment and is not currently facing any charges.

Moreover, the westbound lanes were blocked during the length of the incident, and it was later reopened once the scene was cleared. No other details were released, and an active investigation remains ongoing.
