41-Year-Old Tijuana Man Arrested after Solo-Vehicle Crash near Crag View Drive

CASTELLA, CA (March 28, 2024) – Early Friday morning, Jose Sanchez Del Valle was arrested after a fatal crash on Interstate 5.

Dispatchers received calls around 5:20 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway, just south of Crag View Drive.

According to reports, Valle was driving a Volkswagen Crafter van and made an unsafe right turn, causing the van to go off the road.

The van then crashed into several trees before coming to a stop. The impact ejected the driver from the vehicle onto the road, before he attempted to flee the scene.

Meanwhile, medical responders transported at least 17 passengers to a hospital for further treatment. One of the passengers, identified as a 37-year-old man from Saucillo, Chihuahua, succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators say none of the passengers were wearing their seat belts at the time.

Following preliminary duties, authorities managed to arrest the van driver, identified as 41-year-old Jose Sanchez Del Valle of Tijuana, Baja CA. Once available, more information will be released.
