21-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash near Rice Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 28, 2024)Jonathan Chaidez Soto died last Thursday evening, in a hit-and-run crash on Columbus Street.

Authorities responded to the scene around 9:29 p.m., at the 2500 block of Columbus Street, near Rice Street.

Officers say the driver of an eastbound dark-colored sedan struck a pedestrian that was walking north outside of a marked crosswalk. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the male victim dead at the scene.

Crews later identified the pedestrian as 21-year-old Soto, of Bakersfield. 

Emergency personnel later closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Bakersfield Officials are asking those who witnessed the fatal hit-and-run to contact the BPD at  661-327-7111.

Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal hit-and-run on Columbus Street.
