Man and Horse Fatally Struck in Pickup Vs. Horse Collision near South Sterling Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 21, 2024) – Late Saturday evening, Jose Hernandez and his horse were killed in a pickup-truck crash on Alto Place.
Authorities responded to the scene around 11:35 p.m., near the 1300 block of South Sterling Road.
Per reports, the driver of a southbound pickup-truck struck a man on a horse in the southbound lane. First responders located the severely injured man and his horse down on the road.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 46-year-old Hernandez, of Bakersfield dead at the scene. The horse was also euthanized shortly after.
Meanwhile, the pickup driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the collision. Anyone with additional information regarding the fatal horse riding accident is encouraged to contact the BPD at (661) 327-7111.
