Carlos Jason Lopez Dies in Motorcycle Collision on West Saint Mary’s Road [Tucson, AZ]
34-Year-Old Rider Pronounced Dead after Motorcycle Accident near North Freeway
TUCSON, AZ (March 21, 2024) – Saturday afternoon, Carlos Jason Lopez was killed in a motorcycle collision on West Saint Mary’s Road.
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m., near North Freeway on March 16th.
Per reports, 33-year-old Daniela Marquez-Batista was driving a blue 2024 Hyundai Tucson and made a left turn at the intersection. There, she struck 34-year-old Lopez who was riding a blue 2022 Genuine Scooter motorcycle.
Paramedics arrived and transported 34-year-old Lopez to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators say he had a helmet on, but did not have a valid license and registration.
Meanwhile, Marquez-Bautista was examined by authorities, and showed no signs of being impaired. She was arrested with a traffic violation causing death charge, but was later released.
Failure to yield right-of-way by Marquez-Bautista was the contributing factor of the crash, and an active investigation remains ongoing.
