Douglas Grant Jr. Killed, 9 Firefighters Injured in Head-On Accident on Highway 38 [San Bernardino County, CA]
38-Year-Old Riverside Man Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Collision near Valley of Falls Drive
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA (March 20, 2024) – Saturday afternoon, Douglas Grant Jr. was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 38.
The incident occurred around 12:35 p.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Valley of the Fall Drive.
Investigators say the driver of a northbound 2022 Chevrolet attempted to pass a Toyota pickup-truck while traveling over 45 mph.
The Chevy then crossed the broken yellow lines and collided head-on with a 2013 International 4400 fire truck crew carrier that was traveling at about 55 mph. Upon impact, the fire-truck lost control and slammed into the Toyota in the oncoming lane.
Despite their injuries, the crew inside the fire-truck assisted the other parties involved. Due to the extent of his condition, 38-year-old Grant Jr., of Riverside succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Paramedics also transported nine firefighters from the US Forest Service to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
