Debbie Alvarez Dead, Dre Lewis Arrested after Stop-Sign DUI Crash on Interstate 10 [Phoenix, AZ]
38-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck in DUI Collision near 51st Avenue
PHOENIX, AZ (March 19, 2024) – Wednesday evening, Debbie Alvarez was fatally struck in a stop-sign DUI crash on Interstate 10.
Officers responded to the scene around 9:45 p.m., near 51st Avenue on March 6th.
Investigators say 22-year-old Dre Lewis was driving north and traveled through a stop sign. As a result, Lewis struck another vehicle, occupied by Alvarez, the driver and a 3-year-old boy.
First responders located both vehicles with significant damage. In addition, the young boy was ejected onto the road, causing serious injuries. Paramedics transported the injured occupants to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 38-year-old Alvarez deceased.
Following preliminary duties, officers booked Lewis into jail on manslaughter and extreme DUI charges.
