Man Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on State Route 163 [San Diego, CA]
Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Interstate 5
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 14, 2024) – Wednesday morning, one man was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on State Route 163.
Authorities responded to the scene around 6:30 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway just north of Interstate 5.
According to California Highway Patrol, the driver of an unknown vehicle hit a man who was walking in the southbound lanes. However, the driver involved fled before the authorities arrived.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the pedestrian lying in the center median. Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Although, police have not yet disclosed his identity.
Investigators have not released any additional information about the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle at this time. A pending toxicology report will reveal if alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
Officials are asking those who witnessed the fatal State Route 163 hit-and-run to contact the CHP San Diego Area office at 858-293-6000.
