Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Palm Avenue

ORANGE, CA (March 14, 2024) – Late Tuesday morning, police arrested Jonathan Lopez after a fatal DUI crash on North Tustin Street. 

Police responded to the scene around 11:20 a.m., at the 300 block of North Tustin Street near Palm Avenue. 

Officers learned that the driver of a northbound Toyota struck a pedestrian who was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk. 

Upon impact, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting authorities.

First responders declared the male pedestrian deceased at the scene about 10 minutes later. Although, police have not yet released his identity. 

Shortly after, a detective spotted the suspect just north of Glassell Street at Katella Avenue with heavy front-end damage. As a result, crews arrested 31-year-old Jonathan Lopez, of Orange for felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter. 

Court records show Lopez pleaded guilty to multiple DUI charges last December 2021, September 2015, April 2012, and October 2011. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
