Teen Girl Pronounced Dead after Single-Car Crash on Ventura Boulevard

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 29, 2024) – Tuesday morning, a young girl was killed in a fiery solo-car accident on Balboa Boulevard.

Authorities responded to the scene at about 12:15 a.m., near Ventura Boulevard.

Investigators say officers noticed a vehicle traveling south on Balboa without its headlights on. Police officers then instructed the driver to turn their lights on.

The officers then attempted to perform a traffic stop. However, the driver sped off and officers opted not to pursue the vehicle. Shortly after, the driver turned left onto Ventura Boulevard and lost control before striking a pole and bursting into flames.

Emergency crews were able to extricate two occupants from the burning vehicle. Paramedics then took the driver, a 14-year-old girl, and the 18-year-old front seat passenger to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the rear seat passenger, also believed to be a 14-year-old girl, dead at the scene.

Authorities also say the involved vehicle was stolen from a family member of the driver. At this time, an active investigation is underway.
