53-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after DUI Crash near Fairmont Avenue

FRESNO, CA (February 28, 2024) – Monday, Michelle Cruz was killed and Jennifer Fleishman was arrested after a bicycle collision on Polk Avenue.

Authorities responded to the scene around 10:00 p.m., near Fairmont Avenue.

Per reports, a woman riding a bicycle north on Polk made a sudden left turn and hit the front of a southbound SUV. First responders pronounced the bicyclist, 53-year-old Cruz dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, officers arrested the SUV driver for suspicion of DUI. Fresno Police Lt. Robert Dewey said the driver cooperated with the investigators. 

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased woman as 53-year-old Michelle Cruz.

Fresno Officials closed Polk Avenue for several hours for investigation. Anyone with additional information about the crash is encouraged to contact local authorities as soon as possible.
