52-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Collision near Joint Base Lewis-McChord Madigan Gate

TACOMA, WA (February 28, 2025) – Early Sunday morning, a female passenger was killed in a wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 5.

Authorities responded to the scene just before 3:40 a.m., near the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Madigan Gate on February 18th.

Investigators say the 40-year-old male driver of a 2001 Acura was heading south in the northbound lanes. As a result, the Acura collided head-on with a 2011 Nissan, driven by a 48-year-old man.

Paramedics arrived and transported the Nissan driver and his 52-year-old female passenger to Madigan Army Medical Center and St. Joseph Medical Center.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced the female passenger deceased. Although, authorities have not yet released her identity.

Meanwhile, officers arrested the Acura driver for DUI and vehicular homicide charges.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided about the fatal DUI crash on Interstate 5.
