85-Year-Old Lompoc Man Dies in Two-Car Collision near Santa Lucia Canyon Road
VANDENBERG VILLAGE, CA (February 26, 2024) – Wednesday morning, Larry Vanderhoofven was killed in a 2-car accident on Highway 1.
Authorities responded to the scene around 8:37 a.m., near Santa Lucia Canyon Road.
Per reports, the driver of an eastbound white Chevrolet Cruze made a left turn onto northbound Highway 1 from Santa Lucia Canyon Road. There, the Cruze collided with a southbound red Pontiac Grand Prix.
First responders declared the Chevrolet Cruz driver, 85-year-old Vanderhoofven, of Lompoc dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the 84-year-old female passenger to Marian Regional Hospital for treatment of significant injuries.
Additionally, paramedics also rushed the 33-year-old Pontiac driver and their 21-year-old passenger to the same hospital with minor injuries.
Police do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be a factor in the collision. Santa Barbara County Officials will provide more information once available.
