56-Year-Old City Employee Pronounced Dead after Being Involved in Police Chase
SUGAR LAND, TX (February 26, 2024) – On Wednesday morning, a police chase led to a collision that took the life of Joseph Aponte Sr.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., February 7th, at the intersection of Highway 90A and Gillingham Lane, in front of the Public Works Building.
According to the Missouri City Police, they responded to a burglary case that happened in the Crestmont Loop Place.
Furthermore, the incident led the authorities to chase a black SUV occupied by three suspects. They ran over a red light at the intersection and collided with the Toyota Camry driven by 56-year-old Aponte Sr.
Unfortunately, the impact of the collision left Aponte Sr. with life-threatening injuries, which he later succumbed to and passed away. Aponte Sr. was a City of Sugar Land employee police say.
Meanwhile, two of the suspects needed extrication and responding authorities extricated them.
Also, authorities found the second vehicle in Houston and it is currently under their custody. They will press murder charges against the suspect. An active investigation is currently ongoing.
