Whitney Weddel Dead, Giovanna Blangiardo Arrested after Head-On Accident on Potranco Road [Bexar County, TX]
39-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Collision near Highway 211
BEXAR COUNTY, TX (February 21, 2024) – Early Thursday morning, Whitney Weddel was killed in a head-on accident on Potranco Road.
Police officers responded to the scene at the 14700 block of Pontraco Road near Highway 211 on February 8th.
Investigators say 35-year-old Giovanna Blangiardo was driving the wrong-way and collided head-on with 39-year-old Weddel. The impact then sent both vehicles into a third vehicle.
Emergency crews worked to extricate Weddel and another man from their vehicles. They were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced 39-year-old Weddel dead at the hospital. Authorities say that Weddel was a district teacher, and she will be deeply missed by her community.
Following preliminary duties, Blangiardo was arrested and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter. Once available, further details will be provided.
