Two Drivers Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Collision near Mile Post 396

SCURRY COUNTY, TX (February 21, 2024) – Monday night, a head-on crash on Highway 84 claimed the lives of Thi Yen Ngoc Nguyen and Victor Mendez.

First responders arrived to the southbound lanes of the freeway near Mile Post 396 on February 14th.

For reasons under investigation, 30-year-old Nguyen was driving north in the southbound lanes. As a result, Nguyen collided head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by 45-year-old Mendez.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced Mendez dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported Nguyen to Lubbock University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
