(February 21, 2024 ) – CooperSurgical is currently facing 8 lawsuits after the Food and Drug Administration recalled defective fertility medicine.
Last week, federal authorities revealed that in November and December, clinics administered three faulty batches of liquid, leading to the destruction of potentially thousands of embryos.
In response, eight lawsuits have been filed against CooperSurgical by families across the United States in the last two months. Despite this, CooperSurgical has opted not to provide any comments on the matter.
The exact number of bottles used remains unclear, but nearly 1,000 bottles were impacted. Half of these bottles were acquired by clinics throughout the United States, and each bottle contains enough liquid for use on multiple patients.
Mitchel C. Schiewe, an embryologist and laboratory director at California Fertility Partners, suggests that the estimated number of affected patients could potentially reach as high as 20,000.
