Wave of Lawsuits Filed after Defective Liquid I.V.F. Destroys Embryos

(February 20, 2024) – CooperSurgical recently announced a product recall, and potentially thousands of patients will be affected.

Families around the United States have filed eight lawsuits in the past two months, against one of the largest fertility tech companies in the world.

The product known as Culture Media, was intended to aid the fertilization process. The product however was missing key nutrients, specifically Magnesium, rendering the embryos unusable.

In November and December, clinics around the world were using the defective product on their patients before the recall was announced. Since then, victims have come forward sharing their devastating experience finding out that their embryos were destroyed.

Currently, the exact number of affected patients is unclear. However, Mitchel C. Schiewe, an embryologist and laboratory director at California Fertility Partners, speculates that the figure could be up to 20,000, assuming only half of the acquired bottles were utilized before the product recall.
