Teenager Arrested after Stolen-Vehicle Collision near Ruiz Street

HOUSTON, TX (February 15, 2024) – Wednesday evening, police responded to a wrong-way collision on Interstate 10 that killed one female passenger.

The incident happened on January 31st just before 8:45 p.m. when the troopers spotted a stolen silver Kia Rio headed westbound on Ruiz Street.

Furthermore, the authorities started a chase to the Rio where the 16-year-old driver failed to stop. He then entered the Eastex Freeway exit ramp headed in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a gray Kia Forte driven by a 51-year-old man headed westbound.

Moreover, the troopers stopped the police chase and they responded to the collision. Consequently, the emergency personnel transported the 51-year-old driver, and the five occupants of the stolen Kia to the hospital.

One female passenger of the stolen Kia did not survive her injuries, and she was pronounced dead. Her identity was not yet disclosed at this time.

Following the incident, the police took the 14-year-old suspect to Harris County Juvenile Probation with charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle.
