Patrick Chacon Killed in Pedestrian Collision on Marine Avenue [Gardena, CA]
5-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Accident near Budlong Avenue
GARDENA, CA (February 14, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, Patrick Chacon was fatally struck in a pedestrian collision on Marine Avenue.
Around 10:30 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Marine and Budlong Avenue.
Officers say the driver of an eastbound vehicle turned north onto Budlong and struck two pedestrians in the crosswalk. Upon impact, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting police.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced 5-year-old Chacon dead at the scene. Meanwhile, crews took his grandmother to a nearby hospital for further treatment of serious injuries.
Investigators also say another fatal pedestrian accident took place in the area, just hours before.
Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.
At this time, police are searching for the suspect believed to be driving a mid-sized, dark-colored SUV. Those who witnessed both collisions were encouraged to contact the investigators at (310) 217-6189.
