Man Killed, Woman Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Crash on River Road [Salinas, CA]
Pickup Vs SUV Collision near Las Palmas Road Left 79-Year-Old Man Dead
SALINAS, CA (February 12, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, a two-vehicle crash on River Road left a man dead and a woman injured.
The deadly collision happened around 2:40 p.m. along River Rd, just south of Las Palmas Road.
According to CHP, a southbound 2024 Audi Q8 went over the double yellow lines and into the northbound lanes for reasons currently unknown.
Consequently, a Ford F-350 heading in the opposite direction turned right to avoid the oncoming Audi. Investigators said the Ford overturned into the dirt embankment, leaving the driver with fatal injuries.
The 79-year-old man driving the Ford from Pacific Grove was declared dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported his 73-year-old female passenger to Natividad Medical Center for significant injuries.
Furthermore, the identities of all parties have not been released at this time.
Police said the 68-year-old Salinas woman driving the Audi did not sustain injuries. Intoxication is not suspected to be a factor in the collision.
