58-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Rear-End Collision near Deming

LUNA COUNTY, NM (February 12, 2024) – Friday afternoon, police responded to a rear-end crash on Interstate 10 that killed Chunnan Huang.

Police responded to the westbound lanes of the freeway, just west of Deming around 1:00 p.m., on January 26th.

The New Mexico State Police was on site with an electric company conducting a lane closure due to the reconstruction of a power line.

There, a commercial motor vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man was stopped near mile marker 59. Shortly after, another CMV driven by 58-year-old Huang rear-ended the stopped vehicle.

Despite life-saving efforts, medics later pronounced Huang deceased.

Meanwhile, authorities transported the other driver to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Following preliminary duties, authorities do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the collision.
