46-Year-Old Delano Man Killed in Pedestrian Collision near Cecil Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 8, 2024) – Tuesday evening, Hector Figueroa Otero was fatally struck in a pedestrian crash on Highway 99.

Officers responded to the scene around 7:49 p.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway, just south of Cecil Avenue on January 30th.

For reasons under investigation, the driver of a northbound Chevrolet struck a man who ran into the No. 3 lane. Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 46-year-old Otero, of Delano.

Investigators also say the 20-year-old McFarland man driving the Chevrolet pulled over and contacted 9-1-1.

Bakersfield Officials closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, more details will be provided.
