65-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near Sports Arena Boulevard

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 7, 2024) – Tuesday night, January 2nd, Rufino Canete was killed in a pedestrian accident on Midway Drive.

The incident occurred around 6:59 p.m., near Sports Arena Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard. 

Officers determined that a 2013 Chevrolet pickup-truck traveling through a green light struck a man who was crossing in the left northbound lane. 

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 65-year-old Canete dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the Chevy driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be a factor in the collision.
