49-Year-Old Female Driver Killed in DUI Collision near State Route 163
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 29, 2024) – Saturday morning, Briana Michelle Contreras was arrested after a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 8.
The incident occurred around 12:44 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near State Route 163.
Officers say the driver of an eastbound white Honda Civic in the westbound I-8 collided head-on with a black Nissan Kicks.
Medical responders transported the Nissan driver to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. At this time, officials only described the deceased victim as a 49-year-old woman.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the Honda driver to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. After medical clearance, police arrested 24-year-old Briana Michelle Contreras for suspected DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Meanwhile, San Diego Officials closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 for about two hours during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
