Three Fatalities following Wrong-Way Accident on US-101 [Humboldt County, CA]
3 Pronounced Dead after Fiery Head-On Collision near Metropolitan Road
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (January 26, 2024) – Sunday evening, a wrong-way accident on US-101 claimed the lives of at least three people.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 10:37 p.m., in the north and southbound lanes of the highway at Metropolitan Road.
Based on the report, a 2015 Toyota Tacoma collided head-on with a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300. The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to catch on fire and block both lanes.
The Tacoma driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Responding medical personnel also declared the Mercedes driver and passenger deceased from their injuries.
At this time, the identities of the victims involved in the incident remain undisclosed to the public. The CHP is working to determine whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
