Two Killed in Pedestrian Crash in South Bay, Driver Arrested
SAN CARLOS, CA (January 23, 2024) – Police arrested Hok Gwan Jong early Sunday morning following a deadly hit-and-run on El Camino Real.
Police responded to the collision around 6:57 a.m. on the 1400 block of El Camino Real in South Bay.
According to the report, a northbound vehicle hit the man crossing the road for unknown reasons. Subsequently, a second hit the victim but fled the scene without rendering aid to the pedestrian.
Responding medical personnel unfortunately declared the 69-year-old Redwood City man dead at the scene.
The driver of the first vehicle, identified as a 27-year-old Redwood City man stayed at the site of the crash and cooperated with the investigators.
Meanwhile, the second driver fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim. Officers managed to track down the suspect near Harris Avenue and Adams Street.
In the end, authorities arrested and booked 66-year-old Hok Gwan Jong of San Mateo to the Maguire Correctional Facility for felony hit-and-run.
