79-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Accident near Pima Street

TUCSON, AZ (January 18, 2024) – Wednesday evening, Gunji Toriyama was killed in a pedestrian collision on North Rook Avenue.

Police officers responded to the scene shortly before 6:00 p.m., just west of Pima Street on January 10th.

According to reports, 79-year-old Toriyama was attempting to cross Pima from south to north. There, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup-truck struck the pedestrian.

Upon impact, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Officers say the driver did not displayed signs of impairment. However, failure to yield was a contributing factor.

Crews later cited the driver of causing the death of the pedestrian. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
