Rear-End Crash Near El Rey Avenue Left One Passenger Dead

JOSHUA TREE, CA (January 17, 2024) – Wednesday evening, police arrested Javious Vance following a deadly hit-and-run collision on Highway 62.

The deadly crash happened around 8:00 p.m. along eastbound Twentynine Palms (62) highway, east of El Rey Avenue.

According to CHP, a speeding 2014 Dodge Challenger crashed at the back of a 2011 Chevrolet Spark. However, the Dodge driver drove away from the scene without rendering aid to the victims.

Additionally, one of the passengers of the Chevy Spark died at Hi-Desert Medical Center after sustaining major wounds. The county coroner’s office will provide the deceased passenger’s identity once the next of kin has been notified.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Spark driver, 27-year-old Michelle Castillo, and her other passenger, 53-year-old June Castillo, to a hospital for minor injuries.

On January 11th, CHP officers arrested the suspect for hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. Javious Vance, a 32-year-old resident of Yucca Valley, is currently held at West Valley Detention Center on a $60,000 bail.
