David James McGarrah Killed in Rear-End Semi-Truck Crash on Interstate 40 [Guadalupe County, NM]
71-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Accident near Mile Post 291
GUADALUPE COUNTY, NM (January 15, 2024) – Monday morning, David James McGarrah was killed in a rear-end crash on Interstate 40.
Authorities responded to the scene around 10:00 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near milepost 291 on January 8th.
Per reports, the 21-year-old male driver of a semi-truck rear-ended a passenger van, driven by McGarrah. After the initial collision, 43 other vehicles became involved in the pileup.
Medical personnel arrived and transported 71-year-old McGarrah and his 70-year-old passenger a nearby hospital where McGarrah later succumbed to his injuries.
Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, more details will be provided.
Investigators stated that inclement weather and lack of attention contributed to the incident. Although, an active investigation is still currently underway.
