Two Men Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision near Lincoln Drive

PHOENIX, AZ (January 11, 2024) – Sunday evening, Nooraly Lalji and John Wintersteen died in a car accident on 46th Street.

Authorities responded to the scene around 7:00 p.m., near Lincoln Drive on January 7th.

Investigators say 47-year-old Lalji was driving a vehicle and struck a dog owned by a Marine Corps veteran and career law enforcement official, 78-year-old Wintersteen.

Lalji and Wintersteen then stopped and provided assistance to the dog in the westbound lanes. Shortly after, a Lexus RX traveling in the same lane struck Lalji and Wintersteen.

In addition, the driver of a Nissan Sentra struck one of them after the initial incident.

Paramedics arrived and transported Lalji and Wintersteen to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, both involved drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the officials. Following preliminary duties, authorities do not suspect impairment as a factor of the incident, and further investigation is ongoing.
